ASAP, the After School Arts Program, seeks a qualified Program Coordinator to manage the on-site program at St. John’s Lutheran Church downtown. Program Coordinator must be present 2:00–6:00 p.m. Tuesday and Thursday afternoons throughout the school year, and will work off-site an additional 8 hours per week on average. No office space is provided, but hours are flexible, other than on program days. Program Coordinator should be willing to use own computer with internet access, printer, and cell phone for ASAP business. The successful candidate will have strong organizational skills, ability to motivate and supervise volunteers, sensitivity to low-income and at-risk populations, prior experience teaching or counseling children (and a positive rapport with ASAP students), and passion for the arts in education.

The mission of ASAP is to affirm young people as persons of value, nurture their skill and talent in the arts, help them realize their artistic gifts, and broaden their awareness of the varieties of artistic expression. In order to fulfill its mission, ASAP works closely with Des Moines Public Schools to select and serve students expressing talent, interest, and/or need for arts enrichment.

 

ASAP Program Coordinator

2/5-time independent contract position, no benefits
16 hrs/week x 45 weeks = 720 hrs @ $18/hr 

Manage the on-site ASAP Program, including these functions:

Volunteer Coordination:
– Recruits, co-trains, schedules, oversees, and retains volunteers

– Maintains volunteer database

– Ensures appropriate staffing, including sending reminders to volunteers before shifts and coordinating sub roster

On-Site Program Coordination:

– Supervises onsite teaching artists
– Coordinates with St. John’s Lutheran Church re: studio/event space
– Co-manages supplies and storage areas
– Prepares studios with supplies, equipment
– Coordinates snacks or snack donors
– Plans and administers opening activities
– Prepares student and staff nametags, rosters, emergency lists, and behavior compacts – Remains onsite during entirety of program, Tuesdays and Thursdays 2–6 p.m.
– Troubleshoots/counsels students as needed; communicates with school personnel
– Coordinates student transportation; schedules bus chaperones to ensure student safety – Plans, promotes, and manages closing events
– Gathers and processes evaluation data

General Program/Promo:

– Communicates regularly with Executive Director and shares marketing and communications duties as needed to promote the program
